Students completing CPCPGS4022 Service Type A gas appliances must attend (7) face to face days of training, and all other gas units must be completed online by the due dates within 3 months of enrolment.

nationally recognisedThere are four Post Gas Certificate IV gas units that are generally undertaken when you need an open licence after successfully completing Cert III in Gas Fitting or Cert III in Plumbing. This is due to needing a full Gas Work Licence to be a licensed Gas fitter to install, commission, and service Type A gas appliances and gas systems. These units are also ideal to complete if you are looking to update your skills and knowledge on the latest industry standards/gas appliances especially if you haven’t studied in recent years. This helps to keep you current with the ever-changing technologies and regulations to reduce your risk and to be compliant with your obligations as a professional Gas Fitter.

In Queensland, the post gas units are broken up into four Certificate IV gas subjects. These units are required for the holders of a Gas Work Licence (Interim) who need to complete these as one of the two requirements to progress to a full Gas Work Licence.

The student can select single units, clustered or all four units as required for their progression to a Full Gas Work Licence.

1st Cluster: PGL – Service Type A gas appliances

WHO IS THIS COURSE DESIGNED FOR?

The Post Gas Certificate IV gas units as offered by Bizmatrix are designed, as one of the requirements, to enable participants who have successfully completed the Certificate III in Gas Fitting and Certificate III in Plumbing with Gas and hold a Queensland  Gas Work Licence (Interim) or a Gas licence/ registration from another state to progress to and apply for the open/full Gas Work Licence or a  – Victorian – VBA -Gas Work Licence to also service Type A gas appliances.

It is expected, as a pre-requisite, that students have the skills and knowledge of a gas fitter, including pipe sizing. leak testing pipework and gas appliances, full understanding of AS5601.1.2022 the current standard, purging gas equipment, commissioning gas appliances, flame failure thermocouples, calculate natural ventilation, gas rates and gas meters, calculate and install flues, basic combustion knowledge and basic gas fault finding skills learnt through the connection and commissioning Type A gas appliances.

The CPCPGS4022 Service Type A Gas Appliances unit is the next level to the Certificate III in Gas Fitting units. This unit includes more complex Type A gas appliances, electrical controls and programming, OHMS law and electrical safety checks and basic circuitry.

It also includes gas appliances with multi block gas valves, forced/induced draft burners, how to do combustion analysis and carbon monoxide testing, electronic flame safeguards and electronic ignition packs, Solenoid gas valves, Electrical safety , electrical fault finding – and burner management.

With an additional focus on AS4575:2019 Gas appliances & Servicing of Type A appliances in particular the spillage test for open flued appliances

What is Type A Gas?
Type A gas appliances are used for commercial and domestic use. where a gas certified scheme exists. Often there is a program to test and certify the same type of appliance for mass production.Typical Type A gas appliances like Gas cooktop , gas ovens/ranges ,Gas Fire places, Decorative  Display flames, gas fired bain-marie, salamanders, teppanyaki grills, tan-door cookers, naan bread cookers, large brat pans, gas steam jacketed cookers, steaming ovens and gas fired toaster ovens

Commercial Gas Appliances
Gas deep fryers, six burner gas ranges, gas ovens, gas combi-ovens, gas steamers, salamanders, churrasco’s, paella gas grills, BBQ grills.

Display flames, gas fired bain-marie, salamanders, teppanyaki grills, tandoor cookers, naan bread cookers, large brat pans, gas steam jacketed cookers, steaming ovens and gas fired toaster ovens

Domestic Gas Appliances
Gas cookers, gas cooktops, wok burners, BBQ griddles, gas fryers, gas space heaters, caravan and marine gas appliances, domestic BBQs, gas stoves, gas hot water systems like gas continuous flow and storage hot water systems, Rheem, Rinnai, Dux, Bosch brand gas hot water units, and Brivis / Rinnai 3 /6 star units .Ducted gas heaters,

Course delivery

Students will be required to complete Service Type A and Carry Out Work-based Risk Controls commencing with some online work to cover the pre-requisites and the basic gas principles for gas servicing then  (7 days of face-to-face (F2F) practical training.

These units are delivered during this period, with all theory assessments to be completed online during this period.

For the Estimate and Cost Work/Design and Size units, these are separate courses to be completed online with virtual online classes to support the students. The Size and Design and Estimate and Cost work subjects, can only be started after the Service Type A gas appliances and Carry Out Work-based Risk Controls assessments is completed.

Course Requirements

This course is open to those who have completed Certificate III in Gas Fitting or Certificate III in Plumbing (with the gas units included) and hold a current Gas Work Licence (Interim)in Queensland, or are qualified in another state with a gas fitting licence. Proof required on registration.

Course outcomes

On the successful completion of the CPCPGS4022A Service Type A gas appliances and the CPCPCM4011 Carry Out Work-based Risk Control Processes, you will be issued with Statement of Attainment with the two units to submit as part of the requirements for the Full Gas Work Licence final application.

Step 1 – Software – Computers and setting up your tools

•  Learning how to use a computer and associated software to complete the units

Step 2- Design and size 4 projects

»  #4 Caravan RV gas system – Including Materials/tools, take-off sheets, pipe sizing, drawings of the design, a SWMS , JSA and compliance documents.

Each of the four projects will have due dates to be completed, we allow a week between projects.

Step 3- Cost and estimate projects

•  Approximately 5-8 hrs to complete
•  The student is required to complete 3 estimate and cost projects.
•  Includes:
»  Using the ‘take-off ‘sheets, supply a quote estimate, project plan, and what compliance will be required for each of the three projects.

These units are designed to be completed together, so the student can use the information from the Design and Size subject to assist in the estimate and cost projects.

Note: Each of the three estimates/cost projects will have due dates to be completed, we allow a week between projects.

PRACTICAL EXPERIENCE DECLARATION (PED)

One of the requirements of progressing from a Gas Work Licence (Interim ) to a full gas work licence is the 60hrs of practical experience over a minimum of 10 different jobs – practical experience declaration or gas log book time, of which 10 hrs maybe completed in a simulated environment.

Bizmatrix offers our students the 16 hrs PED simulated and actual compliance work – gas logbook experience, which is required to be separate from the institutional training.
