Are you a plumber or gas fitter looking at completing restricted electrical training? Here is the process required to obtain a restricted electrical licence.
Apply for a restricted electrical permit
Apply for a restricted electrical permit using your base trade (plumber or gas fitter). This means that units issued by the ESO will be focused on your plumbing or gas fitting work. The base requirement is to hold a restricted electrical permit. In this application you require a letter from your employer or if you are self employed, a statutory declaration.

Please note: Bizmatrix have no part in this process, we can advise accordingly towards required procedures to make the process easier however it is under the discretion of the Queensland Electrical Safety Office to issue restricted electrical permits.
Receive Permit & Commence Training
Once you receive your permit, you can apply for training. It is common for plumber – gas fitter skills set to receive the following units, however please note the units issued are subject to each application.

Possible unit skill sets:
||Apply Occupational Health and Safety regulations, codes and practices in the workplace
||Disconnect – reconnect water heaters connected to low voltage installation wiring
||Locate and rectify faults in low voltage water heaters using set procedures
||Conduct in-service safety testing of electrical cord connected equipment and cord assemblies

Training time frame?
The training delivery time will vary; it will depend on the quality of electrical subjects or units. However if you complete the skill set above, you are looking at about:
- 3 days of E-Learning
- 3 days of onsite practical training
- 1 on the job logbook required per unit (Bizmatrix also can provide this service at an extra cost)
The student must complete the online training within 3 months and attend the practical within a month after the online training- the e-learning and face-to-face training must be completed not prior to 1 month and within 6 months.
Upon completion of this process, competent students will be issued with a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment enabling them to apply for a Restricted Electrical Licence.
