Tim Lewohl completed three courses with Bizmatrix including Type A & B Gas and Restricted Electrical, which enabled Tim to have his UK qualifications recognised in Australia. Now Tim owns his own business called Plumb 1 Industries, a gas fitting, plumbing and drainage service company.
What surprised you most about training with Bizmatrix?
Bizmatrix allowed me to gain hands on experience within many areas of the Gas Industry that I would not have considered previously.
What do you find most challenging about working as a gas fitter / electrician?
As a gas fitter and working a lot within the service area of commercial cooking equipment. I find fault finding on electrical circuits the hardest thing to get my head around.
What’s the best/worst thing to happen since you opened your business Plumb 1 Industries?
There is a certain amount of stress as with any small business, however being able to dictate my own terms has allowed me more time with my family, which makes up for the rest.
What do you wish other people knew about working in a trade AND/OR owning your own business?
At first the idea of starting my own business seamed daunting, however if you just break it down into small sections and take them on individually it’s not so bad. Staying positive and being patient has been key for me.
Tell me about someone who has influenced your decision to work in gas / and or electrical?
Darryl Bowe is a great friend and mentor to me. Not so much with my decision to work as a gas fitter but with the idea of working for myself. He has shown me that with a little forethought and hard work, it’s possible for a small business to be successful.
What would you tell someone who is thinking about starting a career in gas/electrical?
If you are keen to be part of the industry throw your hat in and have a go, there’s no point being a wall flower. Get some up to date training and target possible employers for work to gain the experience. Be positive don’t expect it to be given to you. Take it seriously and work hard. Shit…I’m starting to sound like my father.
What do you do when you aren’t working?
I spend most of my spare time on the water fishing. I’ve always enjoyed it and I enjoy it more when we catch something other than the infamous stick fish or discarded crab pot!
Sounds like you’re doing really well with your business Plumb 1 Industries Tim! Thanks for completing the interview with us, and all the best in your future endeavours!
