Our CPCPGS4022 Service Type A Gas Appliances Course is in two parts:

Part 1: This portion starts online, approximately 25 hours of study:

  • Thorough review of gas fundamentals, essential coursework for progression to Part 2.
  • Completion of two pre-requisites and theory assessments.
  • NB: if you have recently completed Certificate III in Gas Fitting qualifications with Bizmatrix, there’s no need for a pre-course.

Part 2: Face to Face: Spanning over 7 days, approximately 70 hours:

  • Hands-on training using a wide range of tools and test equipment, all under the guidance of our highly skilled educators.
  • Includes practical and theoretical assessments.

Course Requirements:

All Applicants must hold a current QLD Gas Work Licence (Interim). In other states, a Provisional Gas Licence class.

Course Conclusion

After completing the course, successful participants will receive:

  1. Statement of Attainment: Recognised and compliant with AQTF requirements, including the nationally accredited units:

    • CPCPGS4022 Service Type A Gas appliances
      • CPCPCM2043 Carry Out WHS Requirements
      • CPCPGS3053 Disconnect and Reconnect Type A Gas Appliances
  2. Free Australian Standards: Valued at $707, participants will receive downloadable and printable copies included in the course fees, covering:

    • AS/NZS 5601.Part 1- 2022 Gas Installations Part 1- General Installations
    • AS/NZS 5601.Part 2- LP Gas Installs in Caravan and Boats for Non-Propulsive Purposes
    • AS4575:2019 Gas Appliances Servicing of Type A Appliances, mandated and required for licensing
    • Access to other standards via the Bizmatrix Techstreet subscription portal
  3. Enhanced Skills and Knowledge: Participants will gain expertise as a technician in Type A Gas Appliance Servicing, covering gas appliances with electrical and electronic controls, including forced and induced draft burners. Skills include:

    • A systematic approach to diagnosing, fault-finding, disassembling, remedying, reassembling, testing, verifying, and recommissioning gas electrical appliances
    • Correct conversion of Type A gas appliances from Natural to Propane and vice versa
    • Understanding of electrical safety, polarity, earthing systems, ohms and joules laws, reading wiring diagrams, and fault-finding electrical control
    • Dealing with flame rectification, Ignition packs, pressure switches and how they work, and fault finding.
    • Combustion analysis, correct checking of Carbon monoxide levels – tuning the burner for efficiency. 
    • Using the correct test equipment- pumpy pumpy , two manometers, leak testing gas/ power 
    • Identification and completion of documentation and check sheets to confirm compliance and safe operation
  4. Equipment Proficiency: Ability to use correct test equipment for electrical and gas testing, including multi-meters, micro-amp meters, gas analyzers, Carbon monoxide testers, and medium-pressure manometers.

  5. Technical Manuals: Bizmatrix learner technical manuals are provided throughout the course, serving as check sheet guides for future processes.

  6. Progression Opportunities: Participants are now equipped to progress to the next stage, gaining further knowledge and skills in the field.

  7. Pathway to Full Gas Work Licence: Completion of the three (3) Cert IV units online, along with 60 hours of practical experience declaration in gas installation and service work, fulfills the requirements for obtaining a Full Gas Work Licence within 3 years before the expiry of the Interim Gas Work Licence.

Upon receiving a Gas Work licence, participants are authorized to work independently and certify or sign off on the work as a licensed Gas Fitter.

Brisbane training fees include options for individuals and companies, with rates based on prerequisite completion and Bizmatrix student status:

  • $3,360 GST Free: This fee applies if pre-requisite units need to be completed during Part 1 online training.
  • $2,800 GST Free: For participants who provide evidence of completing pre-requisite units elsewhere.
  • $2,400 GST Free: Available to Bizmatrix students who have already completed the pre-requisite units.

The course includes training for the following units:

    • CPCPCM2043 Carry Out WHS Requirements
    • CPCPGS3053 Disconnect & Reconnect Type A gas appliance
  • CPCPCM4011 Carry out work-based risk control processes

Payment Schedule:

  • Individuals: $1,500 due upon registration/commencement of the course, with the balance payable by the commencement of the 7-day face-to-face training.
  • Companies: Full payment is required upon registration.
