The Queensland Gas Licencing and authorisation unit announced that commencing on the 1st February 2020, that all new applications for a Gas Work Licence, Gas Work Licence servicing and other Gas Work Licences and Gas Work Authorisations will change. The changes focus on the requirement to complete specific hours and minimum jobs of practical experience.
This practical experience requirement does not apply for existing Gas Work Licences and or Gas Work Authorisations who are required to renew their current licences or authorisations.

What is required?

· 60 hours practical experience carrying out gas work (no more than 10 hours can be in a simulated work environment).
· 10 different jobs covering at least the following types of activities: o Installing consumer gas piping; o Testing and purging consumer gas piping; o Installing gas pressure control equipment (including commissioning); o Installing a gas device (including commissioning); and o Service and/or repair a gas device. |
How to achieve the full Gas Work Licence practical experience requirements?
- Enrol in the gas course (then you can legally work supervised under a licenced Gas Fitter )
- The practical experience commences on enrolment and must be completed under full supervision.
- Keep a log and list the completion certificates for reference for each job if applicable.
- Volunteer to work with a licenced gas fitter to gain practical experience.
- Complete the 10 hrs- simulated, in conjunction with the size and estimate Certificate IV units
Bizmatrix has a training course providing 10 hrs of simulated experience intermixed with the size consumer piping and estimate cost work units (which are Certificate IV subjects). This will be delivered as a three to four day course, for students to complete the required 10 hrs and units.

How to achieve the Gas Work Licence- Restricted to Service practical experience?
- Enrol in the gas course (then you can legally work supervised under a licenced Gas Fitter).
- The practical experience commences on enrolment and must be completed under full supervision.
- Keep a log and list the service sheets/checksheets and pictures for reference for each job.
- Learn alongside a licenced gas fitter to gain practical experience.
- Complete the 20 hrs- simulated at Bizmatrix over some time, know as logbook experience
